Building Our Dream
It all began with an idea. To create a home that no one else had, no one else had lived in and is a haven of safety, love and peace for us and our families when they too need time away. Simple, eco-friendly, off grid, single storey. That is where we began.
A year from the land purchase, we began the foundations and five months later we moved into our dream.
We planned, we surrounded ourselves with good, reliable, people, had a superb Project Manager, we were there every single day and we watched our vision grow into reality.
Why Sicily? Why Now?
Dream it.
After a year of travelling, a swim in a Greek pool and the desire to make change to our lives….
We found ourselves in a mountain town in Sicily, and searched for a property, but they were never quite what we wanted. Then we visited a nature reserve and saw the view we wanted. A few months later we found some land and guess what…. it had exactly the same view… the universe heard our prayers and delivered.
Build it.
A prefabricated house is not the norm in Sicily and we were advised time and time again to build in brick because “that is how it is done here” but we knew it was possible and it went up in three days.
We retained all the work, the companies, the money in Sicily and as much as possible in our local community.
Grow it.
We built our house, we have begun the eco house for guests, we have planted over 200 trees and planted and harvested our first vegetables. We have a long way to go but when it is something you love then work is never an effort - it is an absolute joy every morning to step outside and see what we have created.
